Etymology

'Totta's boundary-valley', from the OE  pers.n. Tot (t )a , v. (ge)mǣre, denu (cf. La 58), with Tot - voiced to Tod - before the voiced -m -. It is on the Lancashire boundary. On the modern borough which includes the old township of Langfield and part of Stansfield as well as Todmorden v. 159supra .
