Etymology

Mill Bank, Solandmylnebanke 1492MinAcct , (the ) Milne Banke 1624 Greave, Milne banck 1709 WMB, Millbanck 1709 ib. The mill is Solandemyle 1462MinAcct , Solandmylne 1492 ib, Soyland Mill (e )1624 Greave, 1771 M, which also gave its name to Milnebrooke 1525WCR 2 (cf. Soyland Mill 69supra ). Originally this was the corn mill for the graveship of Sowerby and the inhabitants complained of its great distance from the village—it is over 2 miles from Sowerby (cf. HAS 7 June 1902, ib 49, 67 ff). v. myln , banke , and Soyland 62supra .
