Etymology

Cray, the (le ) Crey 1616, 1636, 1638YAS 76, 5, 27–8. Like Cray Beck (Buckden) pt. vi infra and Cray K, Cray was probably an old stream-name, from OWelsh  crei 'fresh' (cf. RN 103); doubtless it referred to a stream running down to Black Brook.
