The variation between Barn - and Barm - has persisted to modern times. Possibly 'the barns', v. bere-ærn; Barm - is perhaps to be accounted for as an assimilated form, with -n - becoming -m - before -b - in compounds like Barmbrynk . v. also brink , brōc .
