Brock Well, le Brokenwelnose , Brokewell '1492MinAcct , Brookwell 1543 YD i, Brockwell 1709 WMB, 1817 M. The first spelling suggests that this means 'the broken weir, perhaps in allusion to a broken well-trough, v. brocen , wella ; -nose is from nose 'a headland'.
