Etymology

Brian Scholes, Brynscoles 1337 WCR (p), 1536 Rent, 1576 PRHfx, Brynesc (h )oles 1403WCR , 1436, 1440 Stansf, Brynnescolys 1461 Pat, Brynskoles 1525WCR 4d, Brianscolebroke 1550 HAS 6, Bryon Scholes 1709 WMB. 'Bryni's sheds', from the OE  pers.n. Brȳni and skáli . The later forms have been influenced by the pers.n. Brian , but the name can hardly be derived from it as OIr  Brian retained its form in ME (Revue Celtique xliv, 40–1). v. Addenda.
