Etymology

Radwell End, Radwell Head, Radwallhill 1486WCR 1, Radwallend 1584 WillY, Rodwallend 1578 ib, Rodwelend 1719 Stansf, Radwell Haghe 1584 WillY, Radwellend 1649 PRHept, Rodil End 1751 Rent. 'Red spring', v. rēad , wella , ende , haga 'enclosure'. The spellings with Rod - are perhaps due to the influence of other p.ns. like Rodley, Rothwell, etc.; those with -wall - are from the equivalent Merc  wælla (ME  (WMidl ) walle ); cf. Phonol. § 7.
