Historical Forms

  • Keelham 1817 M

Etymology

Keelam, Keelham 1817 M; this name recurs at Keelham 166, 273 and Keelam 205infra , but without early enough material to be decisive; all these places are on ridges or lofty hill-sides, and may well represent ON  kjǫlum , dat.pl. of kjǫlr 'a ridge' (as in Kelham Nt 187). The frequent repetition of a name of this type is paralleled by Mytholme (passim ).
