Etymology

Moselden, Moseleyden 1285 WCR, Moslenden 1379 PT (p), Moss(y)lyngden 1538MinAcct 56, Mossleden-yate 1775 Watson 48, Mosleden 1817 M. Probably an older p.n. Moseley 'clearing in a swamp' (v. mos , lēah , cf. Moseley ii, 48supra ), and denu 'valley'; the Moslen -, Mosslyng - spellings are analogical (cf. EPN i, 282–3, Stanningden 65 supra ).
