Higham, 1606FGr 13, 1709 WMB, Highom 1624 Greave, v. hēah 'high'; the second el. is uncertain; it could be ME  home 'homestead', or possibly OE  hām itself, though that el. would be unusual in the district; cf. Higham 173infra .
