Etymology

Most probably from an OE  *turfen 'place where turf was dug' from OE  turf with the suffix -en1 . So far this is a unique occurrence.On phonological grounds the name cannot be connected with Tarvin Ch, which is from an early Welsh form of Lat  terminus 'boundary'.
