Etymology

Everhill Shaw, Hevereldesshaghe 1439 Rent, Eiuerleshagh '1492MinAcct , Heverildshay 1571 Ct, Haveraldeshawe 1572 WillY, Heverellshawe 1643 PRHept, Everilshaw 1843 O.S. Probably a ME  pers.n. Everild (OG  Eburhild ) and sceaga 'copse'. The initial H - in some of the spellings is non-etymological, but may possibly have been influenced by dial. haverel 'a fool, a talkative person', which is not, however, recorded earlier than 1774 (NED, EDD s.v.).
