Etymology

Binns, Binns Top, Byns 1536 Rent, Bynes 1552 WillY, Binnes , Bynnes 1565 PRHfx, 1651 PREll, Bynneshead , Bineshead 1641, 1644 WillY.v. binn 'a stall', an el. found elsewhere in YW (Binn ii, 277supra ).This place was probably the original home of the local family of Binns (cf. Binn Royd 54supra and the f.n. Bynsrode 103 infra ).
