Etymology

Crimsworth, Crumliswrthebouthum 1275 WCR i, 38, 116, Crimblesworth 1327 WCR (p), Crymmysworthe 1551 WillY, Crymesworth 1633FGr 1, Crimsworth 1660 PRHept. The first el. is crymel 'a small piece of land or water' or possibly another unrecorded derivative crymels ; the sense here might be 'fine debris' (as in ModE  crumble ) or it might be an old name for the stream which runs through Crimsworth Dean, since crymel seems to have been used also of 'a pool' or the like. v. worð 'enclosure', botm 'valley bottom'; cf. also -els , -es 2 (EPN i, 150, 158).
