Etymology

Bate End, Batehayne (s )1426 HAS 4, 226, 1454WCR , Baytehayne , Baitehayne 1452, 1485 ib, Bait Hame 1775 HAS 15, 316. 'Pasture enclosure', from ON  beit and hegn . There was in the vicinity a Batthill 1664YAS 212, 1666FGr 4, and Battriddynge 16 HAS 27, 118, but these are probably named from a local family of Batt (HAS 27, 118).
