Etymology

Kebroyd, Kebroud (sic)1492MinAcct , Kebroid (e ), Kebroyd (e )1497 Ipm, 1651 PRHpt, 1652 WillS, 1709 WMB, Keperoyde 1544 Ipm, Kabroyde 1624 Greave, Keybroyde 1652 WillS. The first el. is e.ModE  kebbe 'a ewe that has lost her lamb', of doubtful origin but thought to be related to G  kibbe , kippe 'a ewe'; in Y dial. keb also describes 'an old worn-out sheep', v. rod 1 'clearing', cf. Keb Cote 198infra .
