Etymology

Harrowins, Horwythyns , Horwythins 1434 Stansf, 1682 HAS 8, 186, Hardwythings 1612MinAcct , probably derived as a collective noun from an OE  hāra -wīðig (occurring in OE  charter boundaries), surviving only in dial. hoarwithy 'the white-beam' and in the p.n. Hoarwithy He (cf. Ekwall DEPN s.n.).
