Etymology

Beestonhurst, 1624 Greave, 1775 Watson 304, Beistonhirst 1450 HAS 4, 284, Bytheestonhirst 1536 Rent, Bestinghirst 1709 WMB; probably, like Beestonely 49supra , this may well contain a surname Beeston (from Beeston 217infra ) or the word bee-stone , and hyrst 'wood'; the 1536 spelling seems to arise from a misinterpretation of the name as a contracted form of 'by the Easton hurst'.
