Etymology

Birds Royd, 1817 M, le Brydrode 1389WCR , Burdsroid 1726 HAS 31, 198, probably identical with the older le Briggerode 1297 WCR, Brig Roide 1640 WillY, Brigroyde 1635 HAS 34, 145 (cf. ib 196 ff), v. brycg , rod 1 'clearing', named from Brighouse Bridge (77infra ), as in Bridge End infra .
