Etymology

Grimescar, Grimscar 1771 M, Grime -Scar -Wood 1775 Watson 756.There can be little doubt, though the forms are late, that this rocky scar (v. sker ) is named from ON  gírmr 'a masked person' or OE  grīma2 'a spectre, a goblin'.
