Etymology

Trimmingham, Trimigham 13Lewes 296(p), 1266 YI (p), 1274, 1298 WCR (p), Trimighaim 1290 Linds (p), Trimingham 13 YD vii(p), 1274 WCR (p), 1608 HAS 8, 103, Trimingeham 1246Ass 3(p), Tremingham Tremyngham 1538MinAcct 56, 1557 YD i, 1562Briggs 9, 1575 Ct, Trymmyngham 1571 Ct. All the early spellings till the sixteenth century are the surnames of a local Skircoat family, and the p.n. may in fact be a manorial one derived from the family name, which probably originated in Trimingham Nf (Trimingeham 1185 P, 'home of Trymma 's folk', v. Ekwall, DEPN s.n.). Dersingham infra appears to be a similar manorial name, also from Nf. The single spelling with -haim shows influence of ON  heim.
