Crag, Trageheastrod (sic for Crag -)1235 (16) YCh viii, the Cragge 1598YAS 99, Crag (g )1747 Watson 647, 1797Surv . ME  cragge 'a crag, a rock', from the Irish word creag introduced by the Vikings (cf. Introd.). The affix in the earliest spelling is 'east clearing', v. ēast , rod 1 .
