Etymology

Bride Stones, 1775 Watson 23, 1817 M, the Bridstones 1491 Watson 24. Watson 23 describes this as 'one upright stone pillar, called the Bride' and near it was 'another large stone called the Groom'. The name is from brȳd 'a bride' and stān , and is a figurative p.n., cf. Lad Stone 54supra , and v. HAS 19, 65 ff.
