Etymology

Lee Bridge, Lee Brigg (e )1572 Ct, 1709 WMB, Lee Bridge 1797 PRAdd, Leigh brig 1591 PRHfx, Leabridg 1675 Og, probably identical with Libbrig ', Brigleghbrigge 1492MinAcct 02. v. lēah 'clearing', brycg .The full form of the first el. was apparently Briglegh 'clearing by the bridge', but the prefixed Brig - was abandoned as tautological; cf. Lee Bank, Lee Mount 118infra , to which the bridge gave access.
