, 1745 CW xlv, 183 , Baynfierhowe , Baynfyerhowe 1641 Kend i, 374, Bonefire Hall 1738Rent 3 , ' bonfire hill ' , v. haugr ( which is sometimes replaced by -hall as an inverted spelling , cf. YW vii, 79 § 6 ) ; bonfire originally meant ' fire ofbones ' and the earliest spelling Bayn - retains the northern form of OE  bān ' bone ' .
