Wattsfield, Wattesfeld (e ), Wattesfielde 1377 Ipm, 1401 Cl, 1596 Kend i, 335, Wattsfeld 1431 ib 360, Watesfeld 1598 PR(K), Watchfeild , Watchfield 1575, 1614 PR(K)et freq to 1777 M. The ME  pers.n. Watte , a pet- form of Walter , v. feld 'open land'. On the assimilation of -ts - to -tch - in Watch - cf. Phonol. §25.
