Etymology

'Shores of the bull pool or marsh', v. bula , mere , mýrr , strand .The occurrence of Bulleman place in 1374 in the neighbouring parish of Crosthwaite (i, 87supra ) suggests that the first el. has been adapted to the form of the ME  occupational name Buleman 'bull keeper' (Reaney 52). The place stands on the R. Gilpin.
