Etymology

'Variegated hill-side', v. fāg , sīde ; Facit (La 60) and Fawside (Du 82) are of similar origin; cf. also Faghenheved (i, 151infra ).The forest (v. forest ) has given its name to The Forest and Forest Hall (infra ) and Forest Foot in Grayrigg (i, 141infra ).
