Goodhamscales, Skaillere-goodwine 1241–6 Kend i, 392, Godwinscales 1283 Ipm, Goodhamscales 1836KCR . 'Godwine's shielings', from the OE  pers.n. Godwine and skáli; cf. Godwynescales (YW v, 103).The first form represents an inversion compound, and, as far as it is reliable, an ON  nom. plural skálar .
