Etymology

'Winuc's forest-glade or clearing', v. lēah . On the OE  pers.n. Winuc cf. Redin 152. If the DB form is not an error the original name may have been Winucingesleah with Winucing as a patronymic from Winuc (cf. -ing 3 ).
