Etymology

Kettle Spring, Ketilstrynge 1446–58 FountBurs, Kettillstringe 1536, 1547 Rip iii, 1546 YChant, Kettlespring 1588 WillY. 'Bubbling well or stream', v. ketill (perhaps replacing OE  cetel), strengr 'water- course' (as in Ellingstring YN 231), the second el. being replaced by spring 'well-spring'. The name has much the same sense as Kettlewell vi, 107infra .
