Etymology

Allhallows Hill, monte (m ) Omnium Sanctorum 1228, 1355 Rip i, iii, Alhalowhowe 1380 ib iii, Alhalowhyll 1457 RipAct, Alhawlowhyll 1579 PRRip. v. hālga , haugr , hyll . The church of All Hallows, which also gave its name to Allhallowgate supra has not survived (cf. Rip i, 85 note 3).
