Etymology

'Ásmund's farmstead' from the ON  pers.n. Ásmundr , gen. Ásmundar , and . It once formed with Bondgate a separate township (1822 Langd), which is now largely in Littlethorpe; in 1858 O.S. it is shown about 2 miles south of Ripon.
