Harefield, Heayrfeald 1570 WillY, Harefield 1731Yorke . Cf. Harewell Hall (141supra ) on the other side of the R. Nidd 2 miles downstream, and Heathfield 215infra , with which it is not to be confused.It may be of similar origin (v. higera 'jay', ON  hegri 'heron', feld ).
