Etymology

'Ingrid's outlying farmstead', v. þorp . The first el. is the ON  fem pers.n. Ingiríðr , ODan  Ingrith , which appears as Ingrede with OEScand  syncope of Ingi - to Ing - (cf. Feilitzen 298). This place- name could be from either the ON or the ODan form. The medial -in (g )- in the first spellings may be AN  substitutions for -i -.
