Drury Lane

Other OS name in the Parish of Netherbury

Etymology

, cf. Edward Drury Butts ( died 1863 ) , first incumbent of Christ Church at Melplash(Hutch3 2116) , but perhaps from ME  druerie ' love-token, sweetheart ' ; the lane leads E out of the village towards Vere Cross q. v. infra , so the name may be analogous with the more common Love Lane ( 1 253 , 2 42 , 3 146 , 174 , etc . ) .
