Shatcombe Coppice (SY 453976), named from Shotecumbe 1306 FF, Shatcombe 1605SxAS , Shatcombe Cowleaze 1839TA , no doubt identical in origin with Shatcombe in Beaminster par. supra , 'valley by the steep slope(s)', from *scēot and cumb ; a stream rising in this valley flows into R. Simene.
