Snailscroft Fm (SY 475967), Snellescroft (')1327, 1332 SR both (p), Snelliscroft '1333Brid (p), Snayllescref (sic)1340 NI (p), Snalles Crofte 1569AD , Snaylescroft 1613–14 DCMDeed, 1682DCMCt , Snayl (e )scraft (es )1626, 1684ib , Snailscroft 1811 OS, Snails Croft Farm 1839TA , v. croft 'enclosure'. The first el. is the ME  surname Snel (l ) of which there are several occurrences in 1327, 1332 SR, etc. although not for this par.; there has clearly been association of the surname with the word snail (ME  snayl ), also found as a surname.
