Etymology

Probably 'ford by the clearing where hay is made', from fileðe, lēah and ford , v. Ekwall Studies2 171, cf. fileþleage ford 958 (12) S 653 in Ayshford PN D 547 and Filleigh (Filelei 1086 DB) PN D 42.
