Identical in origin with Lewcombe in E Chelborough par. supra , thus probably 'valley with a shelter', or 'sheltered valley', v. hlēo(w) (sb.), hlēow (adj.), cumb , cf. also Luccombe in Milton A. 3 222.The valley here is long, narrow and winding: Luccombe Covert lies in the valley bottom along the course of a stream which rises at the valley's head.
