Slanders Leigh 1686SxAS , Slanders Leaze 1839TA , v. geat ' gate ' , lǣs ' pasture ' , Sla ( u ) nder being presumably a surname ; the modern form is the result of the popular association of this place ( near Longbury supra ) with the slaughter of the Danes at the battle of Penselwood So in 1016 , v. Hutch3 3615 where it is also pointed out that ' it is still [ 1869 ] often called Slandersgate ' .
