This bridge is mentioned in the bounds of the forest of Gillingham (1300, 1568 Hutch3 3620, 621, 656), and is perhaps to be identified with Pontem de petra ('stone bridge') in the forest bounds of Hy3 (14) Cerne, cf. foll. It is apparently called Town Bridge in 1791 Boswell.
