Etymology

'Madalgar's or Malger's manor', from the OG  pers.n. Madalgar , Malger (OFr  Maugier ) and tūn, probably a post-Conquest p.n. like Pierston infra , cf. IPN 131. For the pers.n., which occurs as Malger in DB (twice in Do entries), v. Forssner 184, Tengvik 190, Reaney s. n. Mauger , and cf. Maugersbury Gl 1222 which may contain an OE  adaptation *Mæþelgār of this pers.n.
