Etymology

This place is near R. Stour and the name may mean 'river-meadow with a windlass', from windels and hamm , cf. Broadwindsor par. infra , Windsor Brk 26–7. It is, however, possible that the first el. of Wyndlam is an OE  pers.n. Windel , cf. Windlesham Sr 152, wyndelescumb BCS 721 (D).
