Etymology

'The pool', from pōl1 and pull . The form Pullee 1295 may contain a suffixed ēa 'a stream', or lēah 'a wood, a clearing', but it might be a mistake for Pulles . The several manors in Poole township are collectively known as Pulles 1544 Plea, 1559 Orm2, Pooles 1544 AD, three townships of the names of the Pooles 1621 (1656) Orm2 iii293, cf. Barrets -Poole , Warpoole and White -Poole infra . The name alludes to some part of the stream 110–632550 to 110–663558 which traverses the township, or to a pool near it, cf. Pulewalle infra .
