Etymology

'Ælfstān's farm', from the OE  pers.n. Ælfstān and tūn, with uferra , neoðera , hall . This place and Edleston 140infra have been identified with Essetune 1086 DB 265b, v. Tait 157, Orm2 iii383, but there is no identity of name, Essetune being 'ash-tree farm', v. esc (æsc), tūn .
