Etymology

'Fad(d)a's clearing or wood', from an OE  pers.n. Fad (d )a and lēah, cf. Fadmoor YN 62, Vaddicott D 108. The -i -, -y - spellings probably represent a reduced form of - ing - 4 , fully represented only by the inverted spelling Fadyleng for some such form as Fadyngle , cf. foll.
