Etymology

Poole Green (110–636556), Pool Croft Heath 1831 Bry, Pulcroft l13, 1325, 1331ChFor , AddCh et freq with variant spelling Pulcrofte to 1594 ChRR, Pulcrofte in Barettespull 1343 Plea, Pulle Croft 1544 ib, Pullcroft 1559 Orm2, 'croft at a pool', from pull (cf. Poole supra ) and croft . This may be campus de Pull 1331ChFor , a part of Mondrem forest. Orm1 places Pulcroft in Worleston, but it occurs as in Barrets -Poole , which was identified with Pulcroft by Orm2 iii 351 n. BM identifies Pulcroft in AddCh 50581 as 'Poole Croft in Worleston near Nantwich', following Orm1. It now appears that the modern name Poole Green (from grēne 2 'a green') represents both Pool Croft and Barrets -Poole .
