Etymology

'Oak farm', v. āc (gen .pl . āca ), tūn . The prefix Church - denotes the parish church, v. cirice , distinguishing the main hamlet from Parva Acton 1531Chol , Little Acton 1671AddCh , 1677, 1698Chol , 1831 Bry, (v. lȳtel ), a detached part of Dodcott cum Wilkesley 92supra , which probably represents the carucate of land in the vill of Acton granted to Combermere abbey c.1130 (Cott . Faust. B. viii 124–6). For -Mondrem cf. Aston iuxta Mondrum 128infra . The other related places are Nantwich 30supra , Edleston and Hurleston 140, 146infra .
