Etymology

Bar Bridge (110–614569), Bar Bridge 1719 Sheaf, Barbridge c.1536 Leland, 1656 Orm2, Barr Bridge 1621 Sheaf, 1643 Orm2, 'bridge with, or at, a gate or barrier', v. barre , brycg . The bridge is at the south-east end of Watfield Pavement 323infra , and the name may allude to this fact.It crosses the now un-named stream on the boundary between Wardle 322infra and Stoke (v. R. Bar 114), and gives name to a hamlet Barbridge here. Bar Mill 1775 Sheaf, at Bar Bridge, is named after R. Bar, v. myln .
